General Info
GYS Football is a recreational program for youth enrolled in grades 1st-6th for the 2025-2026 school year at Gilbert Schools in Gilbert, Iowa. All teams are coached by parent volunteers.
Practices are held at various locations in Gilbert and practice schedules are determined by field and coach availability.
Flag football teams are part of the Central Iowa Recreation League (CIRL). The league includes Colo-Nesco, Collins Maxwell, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story and South Hamilton.
Games will be held in Gilbert and in the CIRL communities. Tackle football teams are part of the Youth Sports Foundation.

4th Grade Padded Flag Football
GYS padded flag football is a recreational program for youth enrolled in 4th grade for the 2025-2026 school year at Gilbert Schools in Gilbert, Iowa. This is the only GYS football offering for current 4th graders. The focus is on teaching fundamentals of flag football with the opportunity to get used to wearing shoulder pads and a helmet. All registrants are required to attend an equipment fitting session. All teams are coached by parent volunteers. Practices are held at various locations in Gilbert and practice schedules are determined by field and coach availability.
Teams are part of the Central Iowa Recreation League (CIRL). Not all CIRL teams have a padded flag program. Participating communities are Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story. Games will be held in Gilbert and in the CIRL communities.

FAQs
Q: Is there traditional flag football available for 4th graders?
A: No. In the CIRL (where we play our flag and padded flag through), the communities of Nevada, Gilbert, and Roland-Story have collaborated to offer the padded flag option in 4th grade to safely introduce helmets and shoulder pads.
Q: Does my child still need to get fitted if they participated in the Indoor Padded Flag league this past February?
A: No. We will use their sizes from that fitting (unless they hit a huge growth spurt in the past couple months!)
Q: Why is the fitting so early?
A: This is so we make sure we have enough equipment for the upcoming season in the event we need to order more.

5th and 6th Grade Tackle Football
The Gilbert Youth Sports Tackle Football program is a member of the Youth Sports Foundation and is available to any Gilbert youth entering 5th or 6th grade in the fall of 2025. GYS and the Youth Sports Foundation offer certified coaches, USA Football affiliation and equipment rental. The focus is on teaching fundamentals and an opportunity to be introduced to the sport of tackle football in a safe and enjoyable environment. All registrants are required to attend an equipment fitting session.

FAQ
Does my child have to come to the meeting?
If they are signing up, yes. We will need to get them fitted for equipment. If you are just seeking information, your child doesn't have to come, but we strongly encourage it.
Do I have to sign up on Sunday the 27th?
No, the first part will be sharing information and answering any questions. There will be a second fitting date on Sunday, May 4. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 7, so equipment can be ordered.
If I register online do I still have to attend?
Yes. Your child will need to be fitted for equipment
