General Info

Gilbert Girls Softball is a recreational softball program for all girls in the Gilbert School District grades 1st – 6th. There is no selection process to play in the program. However, the play is competitive and players are expected to work hard and improve as players and teammates.

We play in the Story County Softball League which is coordinated by Nevada Parks and Rec. The league includes Gilbert, Roland-Story, South Hamilton, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, and Iowa Falls (5th/6th only).

There are three age levels of play in our program: 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, and 5th/6th grade. The grade level is the child’s grade in the spring of the softball season (the grade they are just finishing). All teams are coached by parent volunteers.

Registrations forms are due the end of February and teams are formed using a draft system. Coaches will meet once registration has closed and pick teams. For 3rd -6th grade the draft will follow a skills assessment which is typically held in late March. The skills assessment is used in an effort to evenly distribute between the teams the skills and abilities of the players.

Practices are in Gilbert and begin in early April for 3rd-6th and early May for 1st-2nd. Late April and May, scrimmage games within our program begin and the league games are played between Memorial Day and July 4th “at home” and “on the road” at surrounding towns

The program also offers winter skill development opportunities for pitching, catching, and hitting for 3rd-6th graders. In order to pitch and catch in games special instruction is required. These winter opportunities will satisfy that requirement.
